Dietrich Brandis was the First Inspector General of Forests in India. As a result of their concern over the ongoing tree cutting, the British invited Dietrich to offer his advice. Mr. Brandis desired an effective system for managing forests and educating people about scientific conservation. Mr. Dietrich Brandis was appointed the first British inspector general of forests in India as a result of his work managing the forests in that country. For approximately twenty years, he held this role. He founded the Imperial Forest Research Institute in Dehradun in 1906. In 1864, Dietrich Brandis created the Indian Forest Service. He later established the Indian Forest Act in 1865. Later on, he also introduced the notion of scientific forestry.
