Finally, the British government agreed to Ambedkar's demand at the second Round Table Conference. Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who formed the Depressed Classes Association in 1930, fought with Mahatma Gandhi by advocating for separate electorates for Dalits. Gandhiji undertook a fast unto death. Separate electorates for Dalits, he argued, would delay the pace of their assimilation into society.
