India occupies approximately (2.4%) of the total earth's surface, Which is 3.28 million square kilometres. India has a lopsided land use pattern. As per (2008- 09),( 46.24%) almost half of the land came under net sown area. Only (22.78%) is under forest area, which is less than the required land under forest area (33%).
(8.61%) uncultivated barren land, and so on.
In some states like Haryana and Punjab, the net sown area is almost (80%) of their total areas. In contrast, it is only (10%) in states like Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar islands.
