Detailed Solution

The above statement is true. The Britishers tried to contain the Quit India Movement.
Amid the Second World War, Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch a new phase of the anti-British movement- The Quit India Movement. Gandhiji and other leaders were imprisoned, but the movement spread. Throughout the country, communications and symbols of state authority have been targeted. People formed their governments in many areas. The British's initial reaction was harsh repression. By 1943, over 90,000 people had been arrested, with approximately 1,000 killed in police shootings. Aircraft were used to give orders to machine-gun crowds in many areas. The rebellion, however, eventually brought the Raj to its knees.
