Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
Nasir ud din Mahmud Shah ruled from 1229 or 1230 until November 19, 1266. The eighth ruler of the Mamluk Sultanate reigned from 1246 to 1265. (Slave dynasty). He is honored in the Tabaqat-i Nasiri by court historian Minhaj-i-Siraj. He was Sultan Sultan Iltutmish's son (as clearly mentioned by Minhaj in Tabaqat-i-Nasiri). At the juvenile age of 17 or 18, he succeeded to the throne of the Delhi Sultanate in 1246 after the chiefs ousted Ala ud din Masud because they believed Masud had started to act in an oppressive manner. Mahmud was well-known for being a devout Muslim who spent most of his time praying and memorising the Quran. The state affairs, however, were handled by his father-in-law and Naib, Ghiyas ud din Balban.
