On 30 January 1933, President Hindenburg offered the Chancellorship to Hitler. After acquiring power, he started to dismantle the foundation of democracy. The fire that broke out in the German parliament made his move easier. A fire Decree was passed on 28 February 1933. According to this, all civic rights like freedom of speech, press, and assembly were suspended for an indefinite period of time which were guaranteed by the Weimar constitution. An enabling Act was passed on 3 March 1933. This act declared dictatorship in Germany giving Hitler immense power to sideline the parliament.
