The cattle stock of Maasais decreased under colonial rule. They were confined within their areas to graze their cattle in a particular area. They were restricted from entering the best grazing land and also bound to live in semi-arid regions. In these regions, very little rainfall occurred, and even the situation worsened because these regions were prone to drought. Drought affected the lives of pastoralists. Sometimes when it rained less, pastures became dry, and cattle died due to a shortage of pastures to feed upon.
