After being named subadar of Awadh in 1722, Sa'adat Khan formed one of the most powerful nations to emerge from the disintegration of the Mughal Empire. He was in charge of the political, economic, and military affairs of the Awadh province. To limit the Mughals' dominance in the Awadh province, Sa'adat Khan lowered the number of office holders (jagirdars) appointed by the Mughals.
