Gradually, larger kingdoms dominated minor chiefs, and the tribe became centralized. The centralized kingdom got divided into garhs, and Gond clans controlled each Garh. Garhs got further divided into chaurasi, a unit comprising 84 villages. Subdivision of chaurasia was in units of 12 villages. This smallest unit was known as barhots.
