Some of these demands had wide interest, while others had specialized requirements for various grades. Viceroy Irwin, however, turned down the requests. So Gandhi made the decision to start the movement. The Salt Law was another reason for the launch of the movement. Gandhiji considered the British Government's tax on salt and its monopoly over its manufacture to be its most oppressive actions. He violated the salt rule by boiling water to make salt in Dandi and pushed the populace to reject working with the British. The Civil Disobedience Movement got its start with the Salt March.
