Gujarati businessman and industrialist Sir Purshottamdas Thakurdas was from Mumbai. He dealt in cotton. Purshottamdas Thakurdas signed the Bombay Plan, a set of recommendations for an efficient post-independence economy in India. On the recommendation of Mahatma Gandhi, he and GD Birla, a trailblazing businessman in India at the time, founded the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, or FICCI, in 1927.
