It started around 930 AD in Abuishakshami, Chisti, a small Afghan town. Chisti Shilsila was taught in India by the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. He arrived in India with Ghazni's Mahmud in 1161 AD and established himself in Ajmer by 1236 AD. His graves and Dargah are prominent pilgrimage sites, and annual Ursis festivals are held.
