In July 1968, Indira Gandhi, the country's prime minister, issued a commemorative stamp titled "Wheat Revolution" to commemorate the remarkable agricultural advancements made possible by the Green Revolution. Later, rice was able to duplicate the success of wheat. However, the rise in food grains was excessive. The fastest growth rate has been recorded in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, where foodgrain output peaked at 78.9 million tonnes in 2012–13. Food grain production has decreased in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Assam, and Uttarakhand. On the other hand, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh significantly rose in rice output in 2012–13.
