According to the reports of several surveys conducted by the government, most of the Indian workforce is engaged in the unorganised sector. The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) surveyed in 2009-10, and according to it, the total employment in the country was 46.5 crore. Only 2.8 crores out of this 46.5 crores were engaged in the organised sector. The rest of the 43.7 crores were in the organised sector. This is a dire situation as the workers in these unorganised sectors run the risk of being exploited and don't have job security either.
