The river Narmada has its source at Satpura. Narmada is a peninsular river which flows through the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and some parts of Maharashtra. It is a west-flowing river whose source is Amarkantak Hills in Madhya Pradesh. This river drains into the Arabian Sea from Gujarat state. The total length of the river is 1312 K.m, which flows between the Satpura and Vindhya ranges of Madhya Pradesh. This river has 42 tributaries, of which 22 are on its left bank, and 19 get joined through its right bank.
