The Kushana dynasty ruled northern parts of India between the 1st century AD - 3rd-century AD. The kingdom was formed by one of the five Chinese communities, the Yuezhi. This was an Indo-European clan extending from Tajikistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and into the northern Gangetic valley in India. They adopted the Hellenistic culture of the Greeks and turned it into their language. They practised Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and maybe Shaivism. This empire had great wealth owing to its trade and mostly because being situated on the silk roads gave it advantages as being a middle man brought profits. This kingdom saw its height in ruler Kanishka I. The two major centres, namely Peshawar and Mathura, gave impetus to the kingdom to flourish in trade and prosperity, and being the dynasty's capital made their centre of attention in their territories.
