Farmers who do not possess enough land to survive are known as small and marginal farmers. In other words, small and marginal farmers are the ones who do not have enough land or land of fewer than 2 hectares to survive.
Marginal farmer: a private landowner who is a farmer with a meagre subsistence income and hardly ever engages in agricultural labour. Marginal farming refers to peasant farming as an owner, renter, or sharecropper on an agricultural tract up to 1 hectare in size.
Small farmer: A farmer is understood to be the owner, tenant, or sharecropper of agricultural land that is more than 1 hectare and up to 2 hectares in size.
