Because newspapers were the only source of information available to the people at the time, it became critical to begin publishing information about freedom movements in newspapers in order to gain the support of the masses. Agarkar was the first editor of Kesari, and other freedom fighters such as Chiplunkar also supported and contributed to its publication. The book is published at Kesariwada, which also has a library and a museum that houses Tilak's writing desk and the first national flag designed by the freedom fighters.
