The above statement is true. The import of foreign cloth halved between 1921 and 1922. The value of imported clothes dropped from 102 crores to 57 crores. The cloth trade was also affected when the Indian merchants refused to trade in foreign cloth. They also refused to finance foreign business. This event seriously affected the colonial economy. On the other hand, it boosted the  Indian handlooms and mills as Indian cloth became an alternative to foreign clothes.
