Sri Lanka became autonomous in 1948. After independence, a unitary government system was adopted there. The government was formed based on the language in Sri Lanka. The two language groups in Sri Lanka are Sinhala and Tamil groups. Out of which, the number of Sinhala speakers was more, so there was the government of only those who spoke Sinhala. Opposing this, the Tamil speakers have demanded to declare the Tamil language as the official language and sought equality in education and job. But due to the unitary government there, the powers are located only in the hands of the central, due to which the talks of Tamil speakers were unheard of, and the demands were suppressed there.
