Detailed Solution

This statement is true.
General Musharraf launched a military coup in Pakistan in October 1999. He deposed a democratically elected government and appointed himself the country's Chief Executive. Later, he changed his title to President. In 2002, due to the referendum, he got a five-year extension. General Musharraf's regime in Pakistan was not a democracy since the people may have chosen members of national and provincial assemblies, but those elected representatives were not the actual rulers. They are unable to make final decisions. The ultimate decision had made by army officials and General Musharraf. According to Pakistani media, human rights organisations, and democracy campaigners, General Musharraf's referendum was characterised by irregularities and fraud.
