One of the most influential officials at the court of the Mughal Emperor Farrukh Siyar was Nizam-ul-Mulk Asaf Jah, the founder of the kingdom of Hyderabad (1724–1748). He thereafter seized control and took over as the true ruler of that province by using the unrest in the Deccan and the rivalry among the court elite. Asaf Jah enacted the following policies:
