During the colonial period, cotton textile mills were established in India.
The Indian business people earned huge profits through the trading process. They established factories through profits and paved the way for industrial enterprise in India. The cotton textile mills were established in India in the 19th century. The first textile mill was established in Bombay by Cowaszee Nanabuoy Davar in 1854. It started its production process after two years of establishment.
Similarly, in the 1860s, Elgin Mill was established in Kanpur, in north India. Another mill was established in Ahmedabad. In Madras, the first spinning and weaving mill started working in 1874. However, the Indian traders were barred from trading with Europe in manufactured goods.
