Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
The Gujjar-Bakarwal ethnic group lived in the Himalayan ranges of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the northern portion of Punjab in India. The Gujjar Bakarwals had begun their northern march in search of summer grazing pastures by the end of April. Poor pastoralists, who relied primarily on their animals, could not weather the storm. During war and hunger, they lost practically everything and were forced to seek work in cities. Several homes got together to form the Kafila during this journey. The old Jammu-to-Srinagar pass known as Pir Panjal provided the quickest path from Jammu to the Kashmir Valley. Thus they crossed it to reach Kashmir. It is also known as Peer ki Gali and is historically significant.
