Le Barbier was the painter of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen.
On the occasion of drafting the constitution in 1791, many painters started to paint the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen. The most famous painting among all those artists was by Le Barbier. It has two women on both sides of the constitution. The figure on the right of the image represents France, and the counterpart of it on the left represents the law. The painting also had various other symbols of French society like the broken chain, the bundle of rods, the eye with a triangle radiating light, the snake biting its tail to form a ring, and the law table, which consisted of the rights of citizens, etc.
