The given statement is true.
Mir Jafar was the commander of Nawab Siraj ud daula. However, he did not take part directly in the battle of Plassey. Mir Jafar pretended to Siraj that he was going to fight in Siraj's army because he was the chief commander of Siraj's army. On the other hand, Robert Clive was negotiating with Mir Jafar that if Jafar gave him all the information about Siraj's army, then Clive promised Jafar that he would make him the next Nawab of Bengal. Therefore Mir Jafar cheated Siraj ud daula and did not participate in the Battle of Plassey.
