Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
Shifting cultivators faced a lot of trouble under British Rule.
Tribals work a tiny plot of land, usually in the woods, for jhum or shifting agriculture. To make room for farming, they felled or cut the trees and other plants and set them afire. Potash, which is also used to grow crops and fertilise the soil, was present in the ashes created. Upon completion, they leave the area and relocate to another area. But those that travelled around and didn't have a permanent residence infuriated the British. To create consistent income, they desired the indigenous people to settle down. Thus, they began land colonisation. The land is allotted and measured under this system, and each person's rights are specified, resulting in some people becoming landowners and others becoming tenants. Since peasants couldn't cultivate the arid ground and employ tools like a plough, British attempts to settle them were futile.
