Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
Many British officers in India believed that Indian society was uncivilised and needed to be reformed. Some Indians who fought against the social evils that existed in India supported the British. For example, Raja Ram Mohan Roy fought against the social evil sati. Laws were passed to abolish sati and took steps against child marriage by passing the Child Marriage Restriction Act. The British officers encouraged widow remarriage. They promoted English language education and also allowed Christian missionaries to function freely. Through these rules and the support of Indian reformists, many laws were passed to end social evil and reform Indian society.
