Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
In Persian, the term Gomastha signifies "agent". They were appointed by the British and set the merchandise's price. The Gomasthas signed agreements with the artisans and native weavers to provide merchandise to the firm. They controlled the weavers, gathered the supplies and evaluated the materials. However, they were greedy and sometimes deceived the weavers during supply deliveries. Due to this reason, there was a constant dispute between the Gomasthas and the weavers. Thus, the Gomasthas were the Indian agents of the British East India Company.
