Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
Thomas Babington Macaulay directly attacked the oriental vision of learning. He was the critic who had the most influence at the time. According to him, India was an uncivilised nation, and it was the moral duty of the British to civilise Indians. European learning could not be compared to eastern one. He said that a few shelves of European literature had more worth than whole eastern literature. Therefore, he promoted European education in India. He also prepared Macaulay’s points that became the basis of the English Education Act of 1835. According to this act, English was promoted in schools. Moreover, oriental learning was not encouraged afterwards.
