Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Tipu Sultan forbade local traders from conducting business with the Company.
Tipu Sultan was the ruler of the independent state of Mysore. He succeeded his father, Haider Ali, in 1782. He is also known as the Tiger of Mysore due to his bravery. Tipu Sultan was opposed to the expansion of the British into the Indian territories. He opposed the  British in every way possible. He ceased the exports of sandalwood and spices from his ports on the Malabar coast. He also forbade the local merchants in his kingdom to associate with the British Company. Enraged by the actions of Tipu Sultan, the Company came into direct conflict with the state of Mysore. Four wars were fought between the two. It was in the fourth Anglo-Mysore war that Tipu Sultan died opposing the British in the year 1799.
