The State of Awadh was carved as an independent state in the 18th century by the founder Burhan ul Mulk Sa'adat Khan.
The then Mughal emperor appointed him as the Subedar of Awadh in 1722. As the governor of our Sadat Khan had tried to manage the responsibilities of political, financial and military affairs of the province. But with the decline of the Mughal Empire, he usurped the offices of Subedar Deewani and faujdari and later declared himself the independent ruler of Awadh. As part of the administrative reforms, he reduced the number of Jagirdar and Rajput zamindars to control the districts. The accounts of these officeholders were also checked thoroughly to prevent Mal administration in the Nawab court.
