Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Bankers and merchants had power in Awadh.
In Awadh, a new group of people emerged who were usurping power because of their financial stability. This group was the bankers and merchants who used to land money even to the state and the zamindars. The Zamindars used to participate in the bidding process that was organised by the state. The state did this to increase the state's finances as the Zamindars used to get the right to collect the tax based on the highest bidding process. Zamindars used to take loans from these bankers in addition to the collection of revenue from the villages. Since the state and the zamindars used to depend on bankers and money lenders, they became the most influential group in the state.
