Seth Hukumchand was the Marwari businessman who started the first jute mill in Calcutta.
In 1874, Seth Hukumchand was born in Indore. He was a well-known Jain community figurehead. He was often referred to as the "Indian Cotton Prince." Seth Hukum Chand founded the mills known as Rajkumar and Hukum Chand in Indore. In Calcutta, he also built a big jute mill in 1917 and traded with China. He also established an iron mill. Additionally, Hukumchand took part in the 1920 Khadi and 1931 Swadeshi movements. In 1919, he received the title Sir or Knighthood.
