Charles Wood, the President of the Company's Board of Control, sent an educational dispatch to the Governor-General of India in 1854 on behalf of the East India Company's Court of Directors in London. Wood's Despatch became the name for this educational dispatch. The educational policy that was to be implemented in India was described in Wood's Despatch. It emphasised the significance of European learning in comparison to Oriental wisdom. Following the 1854 Dispatch, the British government took some actions.
