Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Mughal nobles lived in lavish residences called Havelis in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many families shared a haveli. After passing through a lovely entrance, one was greeted by an open courtyard enclosed by public spaces. These public spaces, intended for guests and business, are only frequented by men. The domestic women were to use the inside courtyard with its pavilions and chambers. The Havelis had few pieces of furniture and rooms with numerous purposes. As the Mughal amirs struggled to maintain these Havelis under British administration, they started to deteriorate. A few Havelis were broken up and sold. Many fell into decay while the burgeoning merchant elite seized others.
