The governments of most European countries have protected their local industries with high import taxes. The colonial government in India did not provide such protection for local industries. Here are some problems: Indian textiles now have to compete with British textiles in the European and American markets. Exporting textiles to the UK is also becoming increasingly difficult due to the high customs duties imposed on Indian textiles imported into the UK. European companies have stopped buying Indian products, and their agents no longer give weavers an advantage in sourcing.
