Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Calico Law banned the importation of most cotton textiles into the UK, followed by a restriction on the sale of most cotton textiles. It was a form of economic protectionism, mainly in response to India, which dominated the world cotton textile market at the time. Britain started its textile industry in the 18th century. The popularity of Indian textiles worried British manufacturers, and they defended themselves against importing cotton textiles from India. In 1720, a law known as the Calico Act was passed to ban the use of chintz in England. The ban was imposed because (i) Indian cloth has become popular in England.
