Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Nawab of Awadh was Wazid Ali Shah. Awadh was a very prosperous state. Wazid Ali Shah was always loyal to the Britishers, but the Britishers didn't even leave the nawab of Awadh. The British forcefully agreed to Nawabi's taking a subsidiary alliance, which was not needed then. The Nawab had to pay the maintenance for the army of the subsidiary alliance, so he relieved his army. Then the army of the nawab got unemployed, and Britishers blamed Nawab Wazid Ali Shah for the malfunctioning and misgoverning and overthrowing of the throne of Awadh and the annexation of Awadh under the subsidiary alliance.
