Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Charter Act of 1813 established the English East India Company's education policy on the company spending ten thousand rupees on promoting Indian education. A controversy broke out between Orientalists and Anglicans regarding the type of education to be introduced in India. Anglicans, including Lord Macaulay, the Legislative Assembly of the Governor-General, Alexander Duff, and Rammohan Roy, supported the cause of education in English. Lord Macaulay remarked that the knowledge gained from books of English literature packed on a single shelf is more valuable than the knowledge that the whole of Eastern literature would yield. The other faction, known as  Orientalists, which included Princep, Colebrook, etc., was championed because of Eastern languages like Persian and Sanskrit instead of English. They pointed out that the students would be good job seekers but would not be able to assign jobs to their countrymen if they only studied English.
