Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) was founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata and Sir Dorabji Tata on August 26, 1907. TISCO started producing iron in 1911 and steel production in 1912 as a subsidiary of Jamsetji's Tata Group. The first steel ingot was made on February 16, 1912. Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) started producing steel in 1912. Before TISCO, India imported steel produced in the UK. This industry changed the game when TISCO was founded. In 1914, when World War I broke out and steel was being produced in England, it had to meet the wartime needs in Europe. The war lasted for several years, so TISCO had to produce tyres and wheels for the world war. As a result, TISCO became the largest steel producer in the British Empire.
