Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Around 1830, the attack on the East became more active. One of his most vocal and influential critics was Thomas Babington Macaulay. He considers India to be an uncivilised country that needs to be civilised. He believed no branch of Eastern knowledge could compare to what England had produced. Macaulay claims that a single shelf of a sound European library is worth all the indigenous Indian and Arabic literature. Thomas Macaulay called on the British government in India to stop wasting public money on promoting Eastern learning, as it was of no use in practice. With great energy and passion, Macaulay emphasises the necessity of teaching English. He felt that knowledge of English would enable Indians to read even the finest literary works the world had produced; it would make them aware of Western science and philosophy developments. Therefore, teaching English can be a means of civilising people and changing their tastes, values, and culture.
