Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
William Jones was an English linguist who arrived in Calcutta, India, in 1783. He served as a senior judge in the Supreme Court established by the East India Company in India. Jones knows Greek, Latin, French, Arabic, and Persian. He learned Sanskrit after coming to India. He was an Orientalist interested in studying Indian texts on religion, law, philosophy, arithmetic, medicine, and other sciences. With the help of other Orientalists, he founded the Asian Association of Bengal and started a journal called Asiatick Studies. Because Jones had a deep passion for learning many languages, he spent many hours with experts who taught him the Sanskrit language, grammar, and poetry. Soon after, he began to study ancient Indian books on law, philosophy, religion, politics, ethics, arithmetic, medicine, and other sciences.
