On June 18, 1815, a Sunday, the Battle of Waterloo, took place in the Netherlands. Two of the Seventh Coalition forces destroyed a French army under Napoleon's leadership. One was a coalition led by the United Kingdom and composed of forces from that country, the Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick, and Nassau, and commanded by the Duke of Wellington (also referred to as the Anglo-allied army or Wellington's army). The other was a more substantial Prussian army commanded by Field Marshal von Blücher. The decisive fight put an end to the Napoleonic Wars.
