The Harappans constructed the earliest citadels ever built. The Citadel, which was smaller but taller than Lower Town, was the name given to the towns in the Harappan (more prominent in size but lower). The major characteristic of the Citadel was the physical separation of the buildings from the lower town, which was situated higher on mud-brick platforms. Walls made of baked brick, strong enough to last a thousand years, were built around the components.
