The Pallavas and Chalukyas were the most important ruling dynasties in south India during the ancient period. The kingdom of the Pallavas extended from Kanchipuram to the Kaveri delta. At the same time, Chalukyas is situated between the rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra. Later both the Pallavas and the Chalukyas gave way to new rulers namely the Rashtrakuta and Chola dynasties.
