There were twelve rulers in Dakshinapatha. Harishena was a poet and a minister at the court of Samudragupta. He describes four different kinds of rulers who existed during the reign of Samudra Gupta and Samudra Gupta's policy toward these kings. One among these was the rulers of Dakshinapatha. There were twelve Dakshinapatha rulers. They surrendered to Samudragupta after being defeated by him. The attitude of Samudra Gupta towards the Dakshinapatha rulers was different from that towards the Aryavarta. Aryavarta was uprooted while Dakshinapatha was allowed to rule again. This is because of  the surrender of  dakshinapatha
