Detailed Solution

The above statement is false.
India has witnessed the defection of candidates, so much so that it has even enacted an anti-defection law in the Constitution. In a democracy, multiple political parties compete for power and to run the government. Sometimes, in the lure of money and power, the elected leaders from opposition parties defect and join the ruling party. India also faced this serious issue. The Indian Constitution was amended to introduce anti-defection law to plug out this loophole. The anti-defection law stated that the elected members would lose their membership if they defected from the political parties from which they were elected. This law curbed the defection to a certain extent, but this also curbed the right to dissent of the elected members within the political party.
Thus, India has witnessed the defection of candidates.
