Gandhi decided to launch nationwide Satyagraha against the Rowlatt Bill of 1919 because it gave great power to the government and no power to the people. This law was quickly passed even after the united opposition of the Indians and other Indian leaders. Mahatma Gandhi therefore, wanted non-violent civil disobedience against such unjust laws. He started with a hartal on April 6 and protests were held in different cities. Workers went on strikes in railroad factories and stores were closed.
