Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
The Prussian King William I was proclaimed German Emperor in Versailles. During the war, the southern German states joined the North German Confederation. The legislature changed the country's name to ‘Deutsches Reich’ which means German Empire. Kaiser William I was proclaimed Emperor of Germany in a ceremony held at Versailles in January 1871. He was the first head of state of a unified Germany. Prussia achieved German unification during his reign. He hesitated to accept the constitutional title of ‘Deutscher Kaiser’ i.e. Emperor of Germany, as he would overshadow the title of King of Prussia. Though he reluctantly gave in, the ceremony took place in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles on January 18.
